We Cut TV Cold Turkey 4Weeks Ago and We’ve Already Seen Massive Changes…

Something had to change, there had already been so much transition in the previous 8 months, but in some ways things were getting worse instead of stabilizing.

The contentment of living life playing with toys, in a nice house, with your own room if you need space just wasn’t enough. Our pickiest eater would barely touch dinner, ever. They would whine for television every night and bedtime was becoming a nightmare.

So, I did what every fed up mother would do cut the one thing that gave her 30–45 minutes of peace in the evening: TV.

We didn’t just cut down an episode or takeaway certain programs we cut all of it.

And here are the highlights:

  1. We are ALL sleeping better.
  2. Our picky eater is eating better.
  3. Behavior is way improved.
  4. They are better at regulating their emotions.

Now, don’t get me wrong, things are still really challenging some days. Parenting littles is hard, blending a family is hard, AND the results are undeniable.

We spend even more time outside, we all use our imaginations to find our pre-bedtime game, and we are reading more throughout the day in general. Since then, we will sometimes do Friday movie night, but the movie we choose is very specific. Non digitized voices, muted colors, i.e. less stimulating for them at their ages.

It’s hard. There are some days I just want to throw in the towel and click it on, but moms for centuries before me made it and so can we. AND it might not be the solution for every family, I just want to mention what a dramatic and positive shift it was for us.

Maybe it would be for you to!
