Heading Back into my First Marathon Training Block in 1.5 Years …

Detroit Free Press Marathon Here We Come

I crossed the finish line in London right around the corner from Buckingham Palace in April of 2023. It hadn’t been a perfect run, but it had been the most scenic, emotional, and awe inspiring one. After crossing the finish line I knew deep inside it would be awhile before I met my next one.

Little did people know during that trip we had been matched with a little three year old girl, and at that point we didn’t know what would happen as birth mom was being up and down about signing the surrenders. If you’ve followed our story you know by the end of May we were back in the pool waiting for placement emotional exhausted, but still hopeful.

When Zoey came into our family just 1.5 short months later we were still in shock at the quick turnaround but we also knew our transition as a new family of four and helping her process the shock and grief of her situation would be the priority for awhile.

I still put small goals on the table, because I’m fueled that way although they stayed in the confines of what our family could handle, but I knew I would feel the crave of the marathon distance at some point.

In the spring I start feeling the drive again, I found a November inaugural marathon just a few hours away and I signed up. Then, one of my closet running friends mentioned she had signed up for Detroit in mid-October. That one, I thought – that is what I am looking for! After talking with Jon we decided to try, two kids at four years old that take a lot from us wouldn’t be easy.

So often I’ve been met with the idea to give it all up, but every time I feel God whisper he’s not quite done with the story yet and I do my best to stay faithful. AND I don’t know what that means… will I get faster? Are their relationships to make? Are there people I already know that will come to know the Lord? Maybe more than one of these, maybe something entirely different. Maybe I won’t know this side of heaven.

But here we are.

Me, starting to log more miles and our family trying to figure it out together. So here we are 17 weeks out. Ready to start climbing. Last week I hit 49 miles and the goal is to peak at 70 which would be the most my body has ever been able to handle. So, we will see!

AND I’m adding a free resource for mom’s on the move. Resources and workouts in one small pdf! I would love for you to download it and let me know your thoughts!!
