Let’s hear it for the women.
I traveled to Savannah, GA a lot growing up, it was a hub for swimming. I competed there 2–3 times a year and it became a regular occurrence to visit the tourist attraction of River Street. Fast forward 20 years and I had only been back once. First was a day trip for a wedding and second was a half marathon my husband and I did with another couple. Then, back in the spring I heard about this new event that was coming to Savannah. An all women marathon. The first of its kind, and reasonable drive from home, it didn’t take long for me to hit the sign up button.
Fast forward to this past weekend, the hype around it could rival one of the major marathons. They were active on social media, they launched nice race gear lines that sold out multiple times until they finally put it on pre-order, and they hinted at surprises to come.
If you are female and you ever want to try the marathon THIS IS THE EVENT FOR YOU. They cater to the first time marathoners and give you a training plan to follow along the way. Everyone gets to be involved regardless of body type or experience level — and I LOVED that about it.
Now for the actual event weekend, think cotton candy pops of color everywhere. The decor of the expo — where you pick up your race number and swag bag — was beautiful, fun, and unified everyone around the common theme: The Beauty and Strength it is to be a Woman.
The ‘swag’ bag might have been the best one I’ve gotten:
- A pair of Feetures socks — you should try these if you are active and prone to blisters. I usually go for Balega’s socks, but a pair of Feetures is a close second.
- A SPIbelt — aka a running belt so you can carry and run without the drag and discomfort.
- A Run in Rabbit long sleeve tee — this fits like a dream and is one of the premier running apparel brands.
- Kinesio tape for those aches and pains provided by Heali Medical
- A really colorful and cute Tote Bag — can you even have enough tote bags?
As a half marathon x 20+ and a 9x marathoner you really cannot get a better swag bag.
Now let’s get to the good stuff — RACE DAY!
Admittedly I was a little nervous about the crowd support for an inagural event but people showed up!! And you did have to get past the PETA protestors (they were protesting milk) at the start line but then it was smooth sailings!! Only in a few spots was it completely quiet and most places brought the energy. I was playing this one fun and whimsical since I had just run Detroit a few weeks before so dancing, singing, dance off with DJs, grabbing food and drinks from the kids — you can race this if you want OR you can party down the road and you can accomplish either!!
A few highlights:
- Giving Ghost Pirate (affiliate professional hockey team) a high five.
2. Running a lap around Savannah State’s track while their band played.
3. The cheer tunnel for the Savannah Bananas IYKYK
4. Mile 21 DJ Dance Off
5. Bringing several women in for a sub-4:00 marathon
6. Chugging my chocolate milk right after crossing the finish line.

Then the post race party was none other than the incredibly talented Natasha Bedingfield!!! All race participants and family could come enjoy the show at the Trustees Garden green. Then grab a discounted meal (by showing your bib) at one of the several restaurants helping support the event!
The organization did not miss on details and quality of this event. If you are looking for a first time marathon check out the website here for 2025 registration: https://everywomansmarathon.com/
